Care Data Extraction-raising patient awareness

Care.Data extraction - raising patient awareness

Raising awareness of GP data extraction into the new Care.Data system

The NHS is changing and reforms will imapct upon the way that clinical data is collected, shared and analysed. Under the powers of the Health and Social Care Act 2012 (HSCA), the Health and Social Care Information Centre(HSCIC) can, under certain circumstances, require Personal Confidential Data (PCD) from GP practices without seeking  patient consent.  The 'Care.Data' service has been commissioned by NHS England and will be delivered by the HSCIC   Patients have the right to object to any extraction of Personal ConfidentialData from their GP practice.

The practice hopes that:

  • The guidance provided will help you understand the purpose of the Care.Data service.
  • Raise awareness with patients about how their confidential data will be used by the Care.Data service.
  • Give patients an understanding of what to do if they object to the extraction of their confidential data.

Please use the link below to download a patient information leaflet and to refer to the patient's frequently asked questions.
